What is Radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that can cause lung and respiratory problems with long- term exposure. It is a colorless, odorless gas undetectable to the human senses. Radon is released from soil, rocks, and water and can enter homes through small cracks and holes in floors, basement walls, and foundations, where it becomes part of the building's air.

According to the American Lung Association, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. And according to the CDC, it is the leading environmental cause of any cancer

Testing for Radon

If your home's radon levels are unknown, consider performing a radon test to establish if your home could bbenefit from mitigation. There are a couple of options available to you to test your home for radon, including a DIY radon test kit, a simple and inexpensive ooption, or hiring a professional to measure the levels, a guaranteed and effortless option.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency urges anyone with radon levels at or above 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) to take action to install a radon mitigation system in their homes. In fact, the EPA and the American Lung Association recommend consideration of mitigation if levels exceed 2 pCi/L. A licensed and insured radon professional can install a radon mitigation system to make the air you breathe in your home safer.

Radon Mitigation System

A typical radon mitigation system consists of a vent pipe, a fan, and the proper sealing of cracks and other openings. The system functions by collecting radon gas from underneath the foundation and venting it to the outside of your home.
